Nigerian troops in northeast state of Gombe has captured a suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber who rammed into a military check point in Bajoga area of the state, a military officer told Xinhua on Wednesday.

National spokesperson of the Nigerian Defense Headquarters Chris Olukolade said the terrorist failed to achieve his mission as he was brought down by vigilant soldiers when he tried to flee after hitting a military Amoured Personnel Carrier with his explosives laden Honda car.

The military spokesperson added that the explosives which failed to detonate have been evacuated and handed to the police.

The latest incident happened barely 48 hours after at least 20 persons died in an explosion which rocked a bus station in the outskirts of the state.

The explosion occurred at a motor park in Gombe, which shares a border with Yobe and Borno states, stronghold of Boko Haram.

In a related development, Olukolade said security forces raided the terrorists' hideout in northwest Kano, leading to the arrest of bomb making experts who are already helping in the investigation into activities of bombers lately.

Officers believe that the efforts will yield useful clues, he told Xinhua, adding that troops deployed in all locations of the counter terrorism campaign have been directed to sustain the tempo of operations all through the period of seasonal celebrations and ensure that the intention of terrorists to attack civilian target while avoiding troops is duly frustrated.
