Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson on Monday discussed the upcoming visit of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, the PM office said.

John Kerry will visit Islamabad to lead the U.S. delegation in the ministerial level Strategic Dialogue with Pakistan, the Foreign Ministry said.

The PM office said Nawaz Sharif and Richard Olson discussed " matters relating with Pakistan-U.S. relations with particular reference to the upcoming expected visit of the U.S. secretary of state."

The official statement did not give any more details of the meeting.

Pakistan and the United States are in the process to finalize arrangements for the dialogue, a spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry said.

The spokesperson noted that arrangements for the strategic dialogue including visit dates are being finalized, but he did not give any date about the talks.

The Strategic Dialogue between the two countries focuses mainly on energy, security, strategic stability, nonproliferation, counterterrorism, economy, law enforcement and defense related issues.

The dialogue at the ministerial level was initiated in 2010, and several sessions have been held since then. But after 2011, a succession of events and irritants interrupted the process.

Pakistani officials said that the resumption of the dialogue after a gap of three years was regarded as an improvement in relationship after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assumed office in June 2013. Endi
