FTSE 100 closes higher on Tuesday

FTSE 100 Index, the British benchmark stock market gauge, Tuesday increased by 1.32 percent, or 89.25 points, to 6,871.80 points.

British construction output growth rebounded in January, signalling a robust and accelerated expansion of overall business activity at the start of 2015, said Markit on Tuesday.

British construction purchasing managers's index (PMI) rose to 59.1 in January 2015, up from 57.6 in December 2014, said the London-based survey compiler.

Intertek Group's share price increased by 6.54 percent, topped the gainers of the blue chips. Glencore, Weir Group, Royal Dutch Shell 'A' and Barclays increased by 6.42 percent, 5.54 percent, 5.36 percent and 5.34 percent, respectively.

Aberdeen Asset Management led the top losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 3.43 percent, followed by Imperial Tobacco Group (1.44 percent), SABMiller (1.42 percent), Diageo (1.23 percent) and Compass Group (1.21 percent).

The index has gained 4.77 percent so far this year when measured in U.S. dollar. Endit
