Renault-Nissan Alliance on Wednesday announced high sales of its brands last year thanks to resilient demands, mainly in the United States and Western European markets.

In a statement released on its website, the group saw its sales grow by 2.5 percent in 2014, compared with 2013 performance, for the fifth consecutive year.

In 2014, the Alliance provided world markets with a record 8.47 million vehicles, according to the press release.

"Robust demand in the United States, the recovery in Western Europe and an array of compelling new models contributed to another year of rising sales for the Alliance in 2014," said Carlos Ghosn, Alliance Chairman and CEO.

"We remain well-positioned and optimistic about the long-term prospects in the global market, despite the recent declines in Russia and Brazil," he added.

Renault, France's second main carmaker, doubled its sales to 1.464 million units in 2014.

In 2014, Renault's market share in Europe reached 10 percent, up 0.6 percentage points. Low-cost brand Dacia was Europe's fastest-growing brand, gaining 0.4 percent of market share.

Due to the economic slowdown in many of its markets outside Western Europe, the auto manufacturer's sales stood at 1.247 million vehicles, down 5.9 percent from 2013 figures.

"Despite the slowdown, Renault posted its highest market share ever in Brazil and Russia, its second and third largest markets after France," Renault noted. Endit
