Iraqi security forces killed on Friday seven suicide bombers with the Islamic State (IS) militant group who tried to plot against a military base in western Iraq.

A security source told Xinhua that the Iraqi security forces deployed at the Ain al-Asad base in the town of al-Baghdadi, Anbar province, killed seven suicide bombers wearing explosive belts and trying to sneak into it.

The source added that the IS operatives also bombed the base with mortar and Katyusha rockets in a bid to cooperate with the infiltration.

The military base is used by Iraqi military forces, as well as roughly 300 U.S. Marines working as military trainers and advisers.

On Thursday, the IS militants attacked the Baghdadi area. Two suicide bombers killed 16 Iraqi soldiers, while the IS fighters set ablaze a police station and a local government building. The Iraqi forces later managed to push back the militants and restored control over the area.

Another source with the Fallujah General Hospital said the hospital received seven bodies of IS fighters on Friday, adding that the hospital are still treating 11 people wounded in clashes between IS group and the Iraqi forces in an area south of Fallujah, 50 km west of Baghdad. Endit
