Algeria rejected to join the Arab military intervention in Yemen, calling on political dialogues, the APS news agency quoted Algerian foreign minister as reporting on Thursday.

"Algeria is following with great and deep concern over the serious developments in Yemen amid escalation of positions which would jeopardize the political process, increase divisions and violence, spread terrorism and threat security, stability and unity of the brotherly Yemen," Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra said at the meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh.

"Algeria, once again, insists that the return to stability and security in Yemen would only be possible through the commitment to national dialogue, peace agreement and the initiative of the Arab Gulf countries," Lamamra said.

Algeria also "urges all the stockholders to respect the will of the Yemeni people, the institutional legitimacy and the international law," the Foreign minister noted.

Meanwhile, Lamamra expressed the solidarity of his country "with the brotherly Yemeni people in this difficult and crucial time of their history," considering that "the hardliner positions and escalation of violence would not settle the crisis, but rather deepen it."

Algeria has always rejected intervening militarily beyond its borders and resorting to military option to settle internal conflicts of other countries but supports to settle crisis by political dialogues.

Yemen has been gripped by widespread violence in the southern regions since early February, raising fears that the impoverished country is slipping into a civil war.

The Shiite Houthi rebel group, who has seized large parts of the country including the capital Sanaa, ousted the Yemeni President Abd-Rabbo Mansour Hadi who arrived in the Saudi Arabia's capital of Riyadh on Thursday and is supposed to participate in the Arab League summit to be held in Sharm el-Shiekh during March 28-29.

Early in the day, Saudi Arabia and fellow Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states launched airstrikes on Houthi positions in Yemen, a move condemned by Iran but supported by the United States, Egypt, Jordan and Morocco. Endit
