Early voting for the 2015 Finnish parliamentary election came to a close on Tuesday evening with a voter turnout higher than in the election four years ago.

According to statistical data published by the Finnish ministry of justice on Tuesday evening, 1,344,932 Finnish people cast ballots in the advanced polls.

The turnout reached 31.9 percent, which was higher than 31.2 percent in the previous parliamentary election of 2011.

Women appeared more active than men in the advance voting. The number of female voters was 735,081, whereas that of male voters stood at 609,851.

Seeing the long queue at a polling station, a middle-aged woman had to drive another two kilometers to cast her ballot.

"I think people are more eager to vote because they want to see new parties coming," she told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The early voting period lasted for a week. A total of 912 polling stations were set up in municipal buildings, libraries, post offices and shopping centers across the country.

The official polling day for the Finnish parliamentary election is on April 19. A total of 4,221,237 Finns are eligible to vote in the election. Endit
