Vietnam's industrial production continues to accelerate: statistics

Vietnam's industrial production continued to accelerate with a growth of 9.4 percent in the first four months of 2015 compared to 5.4 percent of the same period in 2014, according to Vietnam's General Statistics Office (GSO) on Monday.

Among the industries, the processing and manufacturing sector is estimated to grow by 10.1 percent year-on-year, contributing 7. 2 percentage points to the overall growth.

The mining industry is expected to increase by 6.7 percent year- on-year, making up 1.4 percentage points, electricity production and distribution to expand by 10.6 percent (0.7 percentage points) while water and sewage treatment to go up 6.4 percent (0.1 percentage points), the office said in a monthly statistics report on its website.

The significant rise of the industrial production index during the four-month period is attributed to the sharp increase of production of mobile phone (up 89 percent), automobile (up 58.4 percent), television (up 41.8 percent), among others.

Industrial consumption index in the first quarter of 2015 posted a growth of 13.9 percent year-on-year, much higher than that of 5.5 percent of the same period in 2014, according to GSO.

As of April 1, 2015, the inventory index of the processing and manufacturing sector increased by 11.3 percent year-on-year, lower than that of 13.9 percent in the same period in 2014, said the office. Endi
