Ukraine hopes to wrap up FTA talks with Canada as soon as possible

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said here Tuesday that his country hopes to conclude talks with Canada on a free trade agreement (FTA) in the nearest future.

"I hope that our negotiations will move towards signing an agreement," Yatsenyuk said during a meeting with visiting Canadian Foreign Minister Robert Nicholson.

A new round of FTA talks will start Wednesday. Yatsenyuk said he wishes a "successful outcome of the negotiations" will boost the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries to a higher level.

Ukraine and Canada formally launched the FTA talks in January this year.

Official statistics show that in the first 11 months of 2014, the trade turnover between the two states stood at 218.6 million U.S. dollars, less than 1 percent of Ukraine's total foreign trade volume.

Ukraine mainly exports copper, mineral fuels, oil, ferrous metals and fertilizers to Canada and imports pharmaceutical products from the North American country. Endi
