The Burundian government has commended the outcomes of the regional summit held Sunday in Dar- es-Salaam, Tanzania on Burundi's crisis, Burundian Government Spokesman Philippe Nzobonariba has told Xinhua in a phone interview.

"The Burundian government has highly welcomed the outcomes of the regional summit on Burundi which provided one month and half for the organization of the first polls (the legislative and communal elections)," said Burundian Government Spokesman Philippe Nzobonariba.

According to him, opposition members who had claimed to be unable to participate in the elections now have time to join others in the competition.

Nzobonariba indicated that institutions like the Burundian constitutional court will look at how to replace the two members of the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) who have reportedly fled the country.

Two ladies including the Vice-Chairlady of the CENI Spes- Caritas Ndironkeye and CENI Finance and Administration Manager Illuminata Ndabahagamye reportedly fled Burundi on Friday.

According to the law governing the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI), a decision taken by three out of five CENI members cannot take effect.

Earlier in May, the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court Sylvere Nimpagaritse also fled Burundi after the Court decided to pass the candidacy of Nkurunziza's new term bid for the forthcoming presidential election due on June 26, arguing that the 2005-2010 should not be counted as a term because, in 2005, Nkurunziza was elected by the parliament and not in a universal suffrage.
