Myanmar's parliament has passed a proposal calling for keeping the current age of retirement at 60 for civil servants other than raising it to 63, parliament sources said Friday.

Debating on the retirement age for government employees, some MPs argued against the extension, saying it could become a barrier to promotion for subordinates and would fuel unemployment problem.

Others however, spoke in favor of the raising, arguing that civil servants aged 60 and above with rich experience would continue to contribute to the country.

The parliament's approval for retaining the current retirement age came after 14 MPs debated over the proposal, which was submitted as an important one to the legislative body. Endi
