Colombian police seized Wednesday 800 kilos of cocaine hidden inside a tanker in the outskirts of Bogota, the capital city, allegedly ready to make its way to the northern port of Barranquilla and then be shipped to Manzanillo, Mexico.

According to a police report, the vehicle initially left from Puerto Asis in the south and toured the southern route towards the center of the country. It made a first stop in the city of Ibague where its gasoline tank was removed and then traveled to the industrial area of Bogota.

Authorities following the tanker stopped it at one of the entrance roads to Bogota. The captured driver told police he was paid around 2,900 U.S. dollars to transport the alkaloid.

The tanker was immediately sent to a police station for further tests, from which the police discovered a sophisticated inlet that opens with pressure air.

There were 777 packages of cocaine inside the cove allegedly belonging to the Usaga Clan, a Colombian gang dedicated to drug trafficking.

Colombian police have seized 88 tons of cocaine so far this year, up 40 percent from the same period of 2014. Among them, 34 tons were

seized in international waters thanks to Colombian intelligence. Endi
