Devastating landslides caused by heavy rains hit many houses in Bangladesh's southeastern hilly district Bandarban early Saturday, leaving at least six people dead.

A police official in Bandarban district, some 316 km southeast of capital Dhaka, told Xinhua over phone, "six people were killed and several others injured in the incidence of rain-triggered landslides early Saturday."

He said landslides killed six people from the same family in the district's Lama area.

Earth from a hill, soaked in incessant rain since last week, fell upon five houses in Lama at around 1:30 a.m. local time Saturday, he added.

Devastating landslides in Bandarban in June 2012 killed 34 people including 11 from the same family also in the Lama area. Endi
