Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday met with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius and expressed China's support for the upcoming UN climate change conference in Paris.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday attended a leaders' meeting on climate change co-hosted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and French President Francois Hollande, which is a practical action on the Chinese side to combat climate change and support the climate change conference in Paris, said Wang.

China attaches importance to the status and role of France as the host country of the conference, Wang said.

China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination, and, according to the principles of common but differentiated responsibilities, fairness and respective capabilities, jointly ensure that a new comprehensive, balanced and ambitious agreement can be reached at the conference, he said.

Fabius said that France-China relations are progressing rapidly in the right direction, with frequent high-level contacts between leaders of the two countries and stronger bilateral cooperation and coordination in international affairs.

Fabius thanked China's support for the climate change conference, saying France is willing to listen to opinions and suggestions of China and work together toward a successful conference scheduled for Nov. 30 to Dec. 11. Endi
