Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday called on his security forces in the West Bank to avoid any escalation of violence with Israel, the official news agency (WAFA) reported.

He made instructions to his security forces "to be vigilant and cautious by missing the opportunity for the Israeli plans of escalation and dragging the entire region to the square of violence.

Abbas' instructions were made during a meeting held at his office in the West Bank city of Ramallah with Palestinian National Authority (PNA) security chiefs and members of the Palestinian Military Council.

"These measures have to be taken in order to ensure and restore security for the citizens amid the current flaring Israeli escalation and confrontation with Israeli army in the West Bank," said Abbas.

Over the past few days of escalation of violence between Israel and the Palestinians, four Palestinians and four Israelis were killed in separate violent incidents in the West Bank and in east Jerusalem's Old City.

Medical sources said that more than 450 Palestinians were injured either by rubber bullets or inhaled tear gas during the flaring clashes with the Israeli soldiers allover the West Bank. Endit
