It's a "Latin American cause" to end the U.S. embargo against Cuba, Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Eduardo Zuain said Wednesday.

Just like in the last 20 years, Argentina on Tuesday approved the motion to condemn the embargo at the United Nations General Assembly and called for its immediate removal, Zuain said in a press release.

Tuesday's vote has led to what Zuain called an "overwhelming and compelling" majority of 191 states in favor of lifting the blockade, with only two -- the United States and Israel -- opposing it.

This was the 24th time that the UN General Assembly has adopted this resolution, which established the necessity to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.

"This appeal continues to have a legitimate validity. There is a light of hope and the possibility that, finally, the clamor of the international community will be properly attended," said the minister.

According to Zuain, his government believes that "in spite of some progress, the blockade against the Cuban people continues to suffocate them."

"This is a Latin American and Caribbean cause, which unites the countries of our region, beyond political and cultural differences, into a solid and homogeneous position of solidarity," he said. Endi
