Norway's political leaders on Saturday joined in the world-wide condemnation of the overnight terrorist attacks in Paris which have left more than 120 people dead.

"It is an attack on the French capital and innocent civilians. But it is also an attack on our common democratic values ...Terrorism cannot be tolerated in any of its forms," Norway's Prime Minister Erna Solberg told a press conference.

"The terrorists do not speak the same language as us. Where we use words, they use weapons; where we will unite, they will destroy and spread fear and split," she said.

Foreign Minister Borge Brende visited the French Embassy in Oslo Saturday afternoon and lay a bouquet of white roses with red ribbons to show his solidarity with the French people, news agency NTB reported.

The attacks in Paris are cruel acts of terrorism that must be condemned in the strongest terms, Brende said, adding that the fight against the Islamic State militant group must now be stepped up.

A series of terror attacks in different locations in and around Paris killed at least 120 people and wounded some 200 others on Friday night, the deadliest violence in France since World War II.

In an online statement, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attacks and warned that France will be a target as long as it carries out military operation against Muslims. Endit
