Int'l drug policy talks held in Colombia

Delegations from five continents gathered at Colombia's Caribbean city of Cartagena on Monday and Tuesday to map out a common policy proposal to fight drugs.

According to a statement released by the Colombian Foreign Ministry, the 30 delegations will contribute to building a trust-based relations, exploring new possibilities to promote a joint action against drugs.

The delegations agreed that the UN General Assembly must take into serious consideration a global drugs policy to effectively chase the organized groups dedicated to drug trafficking.

The outcome will be studied at the Narcotic Commission in Vienna and the UN General Assembly to be held on April 2016 in New York.

The meeting was convened by Colombia, Mexico, Ghana and Switzerland, and was sponsored by the Open Society Foundations, the Transnational Institute of Amsterdam, Washington Office for Latin America, among others. Endi
