Sunday's presidential and legislative elections in Burkina Faso were faced with numerous logistical challenges such as shortage of voting materials, slow entry of voters as well as delayed opening of the polling stations.

In Karpaala polling station in the east of the capital Ouagadougou, voting began at 8 a.m. despite the polling station being opened at 6 a.m, said Herve Ouedraogo, a civil society election observer.

Ouedraogo said although officials of the National Independent Electoral Commission were trying to find solutions to the logistical challenges, impatient voters began protesting.

"Honestly I am not happy with the situation. We woke up very early to accomplish our civic duty, but to our great surprise, we have been waiting until 10 a.m," said Leopold Compaore, a voter at Zemstaaba high school polling station in Ouagadougou.

"It is because we want change that we have remained here to vote, otherwise we would have returned home," he said.

Generally, observers told Xinhua, the voting process went on peacefully without any major incident across the country. Endit
