World leaders including senior government and UN officials will meet in the Kenyan capital Nairobi mid next year for the 14th quadrennial conference to tackle global trade and economic development issues.

The UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD 14), which brings together various Heads of State and Government, global corporate leaders, the academia and the civil society, will be held in Nairobi from July 17-22, 2016.

UNCTAD Secretary General Mukhisa Kituyi and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Amina Mohamed met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nairobi where they signed a joint statement announcing that Nairobi will host the global meeting.

The week-long conference will feature ministerial debates, high-level round tables, thematic events, a World Investment Forum and a Civil Society Forum, among other events.

The UNCTAD conference, which takes place every four years, provides a unique opportunity to deliberate the challenges of moving from decisions to actions on the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

A World Trade Organization conference is also scheduled next week in Nairobi. Enditem
