Israel fired several artillery shells on southern Lebanon Monday, in retaliation to a blast that went off in the occupied Shebaa Farms targeting a military vehicle that Hezbollah claimed responsibility of it.

"At 3:10 p.m. Monday, the Martyr Leader Samir al-Quntar Unit blew up a large bomb against an Israeli armored patrol in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa Farms, destroying a Humvee vehicle and inflicting casualties on those inside it," a Hezbollah statement said.

The statement indicated that the operation was carried out in response to the assassination of Hezbollah top operative Samir al-Quntar, who was killed in an airstrike in the Jaramana neighborhood of Damascus blamed on Israel.

Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has vowed repeatedly that revenging the assassination of Quntar is "inevitable."

Israel retaliated by shelling areas in southern Lebanon by nine shells reportedly causing casualties, according to the National News Agency (NNA).

Israeli media outlets had earlier said that a blast went off "near an Israeli force that was conducting works in the Shebaa Farms, causing no casualties." Endit
