Four Afghan army soldiers have been killed in a blast in the country's eastern province of Kunar, provincial police chief said on Wednesday.

"Four Afghan National Army personnel were martyred as a result of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack against their vehicle in Sohkhol locality of Nari district late on Tuesday," Abdul Habib Sayyedkhel told Xinhua.

Some three civilian passersby were also wounded and the army jeep was destroyed by the blast in the mountainous province, he added.

The Taliban militant group has been using IEDs to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

Since the start of this year, Taliban has intensified attacks across the country, which coincides with the potential resumption of government-Taliban peace talks and the upcoming four-party meeting of Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and U.S.. Enditem
