Iran condemns terrorist attacks in Indonesia

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari on Thursday condemned the deadly terrorist attacks in Jakarta, Indonesia, official IRNA news agency reported.

He slammed the killing of innocent people and expressed sympathy with families of the victims as well as the Indonesian nation and government.

"Terrorist operations in a country like Indonesia, where moderation is the major characteristic of its people, and a country that is one of the pioneers of the UN peace-keeping missions throughout the world, has once more proved that terrorism and extremism know no border," Ansari was quoted as saying.

The Iranian spokesman urged serious actions against supporters of terrorists and extremists and those promoting their ideology.

Indonesia's Jakarta police Chief Tito Karnavian said the Islamic State (IS) terror group was the perpetrator of the suicide bombings in Jakarta on Thursday.

Seven people were killed, including five attackers, and 20 others injured in the suicide blasts in Jakarta on Thursday, M. Iqbal, Jakarta police spokesman M. Iqbal said.

"Two of them (attackers) were suicide attackers, and three others were shot dead by the police just before their planned attacks," the spokesman said.

The two others who died in the attacks were a Dutch citizen and an Indonesian national, Iqbal said. Endit
