Syrian warplanes on Sunday struck trucks carrying aid from Turkey to the rebels in the northern province of Aleppo, pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV reported.

The strikes targeted Turkish aid trucks bound to the rebels in the northern countryside of Aleppo, where the Syrian army and allied forces have been on a crushing offensive against the rebel groups.

The strikes destroyed 30 oil tankers and 30 aid trucks, said the report, adding that over 100 airstrikes have recently targeted rebel positions in towns in northern Aleppo.

The Syrian troops, backed by its allies, have recently engaged in a wide-scale ground operation, unleashing simultaneous attacks against positions of the Islamic State (IS) and other jihadist groups on seven fronts on the countryside of Aleppo, a military source in Aleppo told Xinhua.

The fresh offensive in the key province near Turkey aims to enable the Syrian army to gain as much ground as possible ahead of the Jan. 25 peace talks in Geneva between the government and the opposition groups.

The Syrian government has repeatedly accused Turkey of supporting the rebels in Syria. On Sunday the Foreign Ministry said Turkey should immediately stop all of its acts of aggression against Syria's sovereignty and the Syrian people's safety and security.

It charged that the Turkish government continues to support the terrorist organizations militarily, logistically and financially. Endit
