India has put its security forces on high alert, following multiple inputs suggest that this year's Republic Day celebrations, face threat from terror group Islamic State (IS).

Sources said Tuesday that para-military troopers have been asked to be extra vigilant at the Republic Day parade in Delhi, given French President Francois Hollande is the chief guest at the event.

"In order to avoid any kind of terror attempt, apart from the Indian Army, para-military forces will be reinforced for the parade on Jan. 26," the sources said.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the country's top leadership will be witnessing the parade at the heart of the national capital.

"Security is the prime concern and all safety apparatus will be put to use just like last year when U.S. President Barack Obama was the chief guest at the parade," the sources said. Enditem
