Myanmar Post and Telecommunication (MPT) will provide its 3G network to cover 90 percent of the country during February, with over 95 percent of country to receive coverage by the end of March, official media reported Saturday.

At present, only 60 percent of Myanmar is covered by the 3G network, said the Global New Light of Myanmar.

MPT is working towards expanding network of phone, towers for the coming 4G network, according to U Thein Hote, deputy chief of MPT's business department.

In July 2014, MPT cooperated with Japanese telecom firm KDDI under a joint operation agreement.

Japanese KDDI and Sumitomo company have bought stakes in MPT worth 2 billion U.S. dollars.

According to official figures, Myanmar's teledensity has reached 75.89 percent as of November 2015, up from 2.77 percent in the fiscal year 2010-11.

MPT has targeted a 75 percent to 80 percent tele-density and a 50 percent internet penetration at the end of 2015-16.

The number of internet users in the country reached 27 million at the end of September last year, up from 38,715 in 2010-11.

Meanwhile, Myanmar has granted the 15-year nationwide telecommunication service license to Qatar-based Ooredoo and Norway-based Telenor in February 2014. Endit
