Jordan fears influx of new waves of Syrian refugees as fighting is intensifying in the southern parts of Syria, the state-run Petra news agency reported Sunday.

Jordan's Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour said after the recent bombings of Aleppo a few days ago, more than 70,000 Syrian refugees have fled the city for Turkey. "If this happens in the southern parts of the country, thousands of refugees will flee heading to Jordan," he said.

Jordan is now home to some 1.3 million Syrian refugees, facing difficulties in providing services to the population that has imposed a huge pressure on its infrastructure, the premier said.

Jordan will receive 5.9 billion U.S. dollars in soft loans at very low interest rates over the next three years to support the state budget, Ensour announced earlier.

The international community at the conclusion of the London donor countries conference also pledged to provide Jordan with an additional one billion dollars to implement a project to support the education sector in Jordan.

Despite pressure, the premier said Jordan has kept its borders open to the influx of Syrian refugees, while stressing that international community's support to Jordan is instrumental. Endit
