Chad's ruling party, the Patriotic Salvation Movement, has endorsed incumbent President Idriss Deby to be its candidate in the country's presidential elections to be held in April.

Deby, who has been in power for over 25 years, was endorsed on Monday in the capital N'Djamena to contest for a fifth five-year term.

He is expected to contest against a divided opposition.

Already, over ten people have declared their candidature, a few days before the official presentation of nomination papers to the National Independent Electoral Commission.

Others such as opposition leader Saleh Kebzabo and former prime minister Joseph Djimrangar Dadnadji are equally expected to announce their candidature soon.

On April 10, over 6 million Chadians, both inside and outside the country, will go to polling stations to elect a new president. Enditem
