FDI in Bulgaria grows 22.5 pct year-on-year in 2015

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Bulgaria grew by 22.5 percent year-on-year in 2015, according to preliminary data published by the Bulgarian National Bank on Wednesday.

From January to December 2015, FDI in the Balkan country amounted to 1.575 billion euros (some 1.75 billion U.S. dollars) or 3.5 percent of gross domestic product.

The largest net direct investment inflow came from The Netherlands, which stood at 696.9 million euros, Bulgarian National Bank said.

Equity amounted to 1.134 billion euros, or 96.4 percent more compared to 2014, the report said.

Meanwhile, the net debt instruments were negative totaling 202.5 million euros, compared with a positive value of 541 million euros from January to December 2014. (1 euro = 1.11 U.S. dollars) Endit
