A grand variety show called "Culture of China, Festival of Spring" showcased both ancient and modern Chinese cultures in Vancouver on Thursday evening, with a mixture of music, dancing and martial arts performances.

Among the highlights of the evening show were a traditional martial arts performance by monks from the famous Shaolin Temple in central China's Henan Province and a duet performed by two Chinese stars from a popular singing competition The Voice of China.

The show brought New Year's well wishes from several of China's top artists and performers to the Chinese community in the Canadian coastal seaport city, which has become an important economic and political liaison between the two countries.

"People were really excited because it brought New Year greetings from the Chinese government and Chinese people to the Vancouver people. This really further strengthens friendship between our two peoples," said Liu Fei, China's consul general to Vancouver, calling the evening a stirring success.

Hilbert Yiu with the Chinese Benevolent Association of Vancouver told Xinhua that it was a gorgeous show and it was a treat to get a taste of the music, culture and martial arts from his homeland.

The performance was hosted by the Chinese Benevolent Association of Vancouver and sponsored by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council. Endi
