Senegal's judiciary has announced seizure of properties worth 17.7 billion CFA Francs (over 30 million U.S. dollars) belonging to former minister Karim Wade, son to ex-Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade.

In March 2015, Karim Wade was sentenced to six years in prison for illegal wealth acquisition.

Senegal's judiciary official Antoine Diome, cited by the local press on Wednesday, said the former minister's 24 bank accounts opened in Monaco, with a total of 11 million euros, were equally frozen.

He added that other buildings belonging to the junior Wade are in the process of being seized, especially apartments situated in the Paris 16th district.

The former minister was equally ordered to return to the state 138 billion CFA Francs by Senegal's Anti-Corruption Court.

Although he is currently detained in Dakar, he has been endorsed as a candidate in the forthcoming presidential elections by Senegal Democratic Party, a political party founded by his father. Enditem
