More than 20 world-renowned chefs showed their culinary skills at a festival in Los Angeles at the weekend.

Anita Lo, a Chinese-American chef, who made a special new dessert, shared her story with Xinhua on Monday.

At the third year of the All-Star Chef Classic festival in downtown Los Angeles, Lo presented a pineapple fruit and ice cream with angel's wings in the city of angels, Los Angeles, at the East West Masters Dinner night, which focused on Asian chefs and cuisine.

"After four courses of serving I think people want something a little bit lighter, pineapple is really good right now. It seems to be the right choice for my new dessert," Lo told Xinhua.

As the first generation Chinese-American, Lo fostered an interest in food at a young age. One year after graduation from university, she went to Paris to study in a revered culinary institution and graduated with distinction.

Lo went back to New York and developed her own culinary style. In 2000, she opened her restaurant.

Since then, Lo received many honors and was invited to prepare the White House state dinner in honor of Chinese President Xi Jinping in October 2015, becoming the first female chef asked to collaborate with the White House chefs on a state dinner.

Though she grew up in the United States and learned her skills in France, Lo owes her love for the career to Chinese culture.

"I always love to eat, and I love working with my hands. The love of food is so present and so central to Chinese culture, I love that. It's certainly a good foundation. You can't be chef if you don't love to eat. ... I do think if you brought up in a culture that food is so important, it does to make it easier to be a chef," said Lo.

She also travelled around the world for inspiration. "Every time we travel it is always about the food," said Lo.

In 2011, Lo published her first cookbook, which highlights her passion for bringing multicultural flavors together.

All-Star Chef Classic offers fans of food a unique opportunity to gain exclusive access to the world's leading chefs in a live and intimate way. Endi
