Local authorities in Sudan's North Darfur State on Sunday denied recent reports of extremist groups having infiltrated from neighboring countries into the state.

"The wide spread of the Sudanese armed forces at the joint border areas with Libya and Chad prevents infiltration of any terrorist groups," said Deputy Governor of North Darfur State Adam Al-Nahla.

On Friday, Darfur's rebel Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM)/Minni Minnawi faction reportedly said it monitored the movement of 700 terrorists from Libya and Mali to the northern parts of Darfur, and that arrangements were underway to transport them to areas in Jebel Marra for training purposes.

Last January Sudan's National Intelligence and Security Service declared that it would deploy troops on the western borders with Libya to prevent infiltration of the Islamic State (IS) fighters and combat cross-border crimes.

The growing activity of the IS group on the Libyan territories has prompted concerns of the Sudanese government over its infiltration into the Sudanese lands. Endit
