Sudanese army on Saturday denied its war planes bombarded defensive positions of South Sudan's army at Upper Nile State, local media Sudan tribune reported.

South Sudan's army spokesman Lul Ruai Koang earlier accused the Sudanese air force of bombarding its "defensive positions" inside South Sudan and destroying a number of weapons and army shelters in the northern part of Upper Nile region.

"These accusations are mere allegations," Ahmed Khalifa Al-Shami, Sudanese army spokesman, was quoted as saying.

He regarded the accusations as an attempt by South Sudan government to cover up its failure in managing its internal crisis and its support for Sudanese rebel groups.

Recently, Khartoum renewed its accusation for South Sudan of supporting the rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector which is fighting the Sudanese army at South Kordofan and Blue Nile areas.

Consequently, Khartoum decided to treat the Southern Sudanese nationals in Sudan as foreigners and threatened to close the joint borders which were re-opened only few weeks ago. Endit
