Sudan on Friday announced extending the period of the humanitarian aid to South Sudan until next June 30, Sudan tribune reported.

"The technical committee for delivering the assistance has sent eight aid convoys with 2,159 tons of relief supplies since last January," Salah Taj Al-Sir, Humanitarian Aid Commissioner in Sudan's White Nile State, was quoted as saying.

He further noted that the humanitarian work is progressing smoothly in cooperation with the World Food Programme, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society and other partners.

In July 2014, Sudan and South Sudan signed a memorandum of understanding on delivering humanitarian aid via Sudanese territory into the South.

South Sudan plunged into violence in December 2013, as fighting erupted between the troops loyal to President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the defectors led by his former deputy Riek Machar.

The clashes killed thousands of South Sudanese and displaced about two millions more. Endit
