Eurozone unemployment rate hits lowest since August 2011

The eurozone seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate fell to its lowest rate since August 2011 at 10.2 percent in March, Eurostat said on Friday.

The rate was down from 10.4 percent in February this year, and from 11.2 percent in March 2015. The EU unemployment rate in March fell to the lowest rate in seven years, standing at 8.8 percent in March, down from 8.9 percent in February, and from 9.7 percent in March 2015.

The European statistics agency said the number of persons unemployed decreased by 250,000 in the 28-country EU and by 226,000 in the 19-country euro area.

Among EU member states, the lowest unemployment rates in March were recorded in the Czech Republic (4.1 percent) and Germany (4.2 percent). Greece continues to have the highest unemployment rates at 24.4 percent, with Spain the second highest at 20.4 percent. Endit
