A total of 60 people have been set free after government forces raided a Taliban-run detention center in the southern Helmand province Thursday night, Defense Ministry said in a statement released Friday.

"Units of Special Operations Forces raided Taliban-run prison in Nawzad district at 10:00 p.m. local time last night and released 60 people who had been taken hostages by Taliban commander Abdul Rahim nickname Mullah Manan," the statement said.

Two militants had been killed and three others wounded during the operations, the statement said, adding the government forces also discovered and seized 10 motorbikes from the militants.

Previously, a similar operation by government forces led to the release of 35 people including women and children from Taliban-run prison in Nad Ali district of the Helmand province in February this year. Endit
