Three people were killed in a fierce apartment building fire on Tuesday night in Turku, southwest Finland, local media reported on Wednesday.

The fire broke out in a three-storey apartment building, which has more than 10 apartments. The top storey of the building was completely burnt down, and the lower floors were also badly destroyed.

Three people were found dead, Ari-Pekka Lehtinen, senior investigating officer at the Turku Police Department, told the Finnish daily Turun Sanomat. Other residents of the building were evacuated by rescue workers.

The fire was brought under control and did not spread to nearby buildings. Lehitnen said the cause of the fire remained unknown. Endit
