Edinburgh Festival Carnival presents dazzling spectacle

Over 700 performers participated in the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Carnival on Sunday with a grand parade along the Princes Street and colorful performances at street gardens.

About 350 Chinese performers including dragon and lion dancers joined the drummers, pipers, jugglers, marching bands, dancers, circus acrobats, giant puppets, and face painters from Caribbean, Brazil, South Africa, the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, Greece and Scotland, Britain.

Crowds lined along both sides of the street enjoying the parade and applauded the performances at Princes Street gardens.

The Carnival procession is an annual event organized by the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival which was set up in 1978, and marks the beginning of Edinburgh's Summer Festival season and a series of Edinburgh Festivals.

Apart from the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival from July 15 to July 24, there are also Edinburgh Art Festival from July 28 to Aug. 28, Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Edinburgh International Festival both from Aug. 5 to Aug. 29, Edinburgh Military Tattoo from Aug. 5 to Aug. 27, as well as Edinburgh International Book Festival from Aug. 13 to Aug. 29, among others.
