Tokyo shares slightly higher by break following halt of yen's depreciation

Tokyo shares closed slightly higher Friday morning following halt of the yen's depreciation against the U.S. dollar ahead of the U.S. jobs report for August due out later in the day.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 7.84 points, or 0.05 percent, from Thursday to 16,934.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 2.75 points, or 0.21 percent, to 1,340.13.

Gainers were led by insurance, food and securities issues. Endit
