French city commemorates killed Chinese textile designer

Local authorities in Aubervilliers, northern Paris suburbs, on Wednesday paid tribute to Zhang Chaolin, a Chinese textile designer who died after being attacked in August in the French city.

The local authorities unveiled a memorial plaque on the incident's scene "to honor the memory of Zhang Shaolin, to honor women and men who are victims of racial prejudice," Aubervilliers city hall said in a press release.

"The tragic attack had triggered emotion, sadness and indignation as a racist targeting is added to villainous motive," it added.

Zhang Shaolin, 49, died in August after five days in a coma. He had been mugged in the northern Paris suburb of Aubervilliers by three men who stole his bag.

His death prompted massive demonstrations of Chinese community to protest against insecurity and crimes targeting Chinese. Endit
