JSE closes lower on Friday

The JSE retreated to a two-week low on Friday, pulled down primarily by industrial and financial stocks.

The all-share index was off 0.67 percent at 50,797.70 points at close, with the top 40 index losing 0.63 percent.

The financial sector was the biggest loser on Friday, with the Financial 15 index 1.01 percent lower by close of session.

The resources index lost 0.36 percent, but the three biggest resources companies were all marginally higher. Anglo American gained 0.3 percent to R185.11, BHP Billiton was only 0.02 percent down at R206.75.

Kumba Iron Ore was up 1.68 percent to R137.05 but Gold Fields lost 1.71 percent to R55.03 and Sibanye shed 3.25 percent to R37.53.

Standard bank dropped 1.08 percent to R139.08 and Nedbank lost 2.45 percent to R214.15.

Household goods maker and retailer Steinhoff retreated 3.48 percent to R71.71 and MTN Group slipped 1.73 percent to R113.10. Naspers dropped 1.73 percent to R2,316.24. Endit
