A large number of traders have been seeking to import cement through border trade in Myitgyina, the capital of Myanmar's northernmost Kachin state, local commerce authorities said Thursday.

Over 3,500 tons of cement have been permitted for import from neighboring China in the current fiscal year of 2016-17, an official of the Myitgyina Import and Export Office disclosed.

In return, 20 tons of Ginger, 100 tons of rubber, 500 tons of rice and 60 tons of Penang bags have been exported through Myitgyina this year, according to the statistics of Trade Promotion Department of the Ministry of Commerce.

There are three offices at which trade licenses are granted in Kachin state, including Kan Pike Tee, Lweje and Myitgyina.

According to official figures, Myanmar's total trade value through both normal trade and border trade during the first half of the current fiscal year of 2016-17 was 13.607 billion U.S. dollars, of which border trade done with four neighboring countries represented 3.67 billion U.S. dollars.

The export value reached 5.935 billion U.S. dollars while the import value amounted to 7.672 billion U.S. dollars.

The trade deficit of the country was registered as 1.737 billion U.S. dollars during the period. Enditem
