Ukraine seeks to link Asia, Europe via "digital corridor"

Ukraine is developing a technology called a "digital corridor" to ensure safe and secure movements of goods between Asia and Europe, local media reported Wednesday, citing the Infrastructure Ministry report.
"The "digital corridor" envisages the use of modern information systems that will perform continuous monitoring of freight flows," Volodymyr Omelyan, Ukraine's Infrastructure Minister, was quoted as saying in the report.
The "digital corridor" will also provide an electronic mechanism to ensure communication between businessmen, transport and logistics companies and government bodies, Omelyan said.
Ukraine will start implementing the "digital corridor" project in the near future, the minister said, adding that the initiative requires the East European country to strengthen its legislation on digital technologies development.
Ukraine, the second-largest European state, which borders Russia in the east and the European Union nations in the west, has long been seeking to become a transit country, linking Europe and Asia.
Last year, Ukraine has officially joined the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which connects China with Europe via Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The TITR corridor, part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, uses railway, maritime and road transport for transportation of goods. Endit
