Myanmar's Yangon Region Transport Authority will introduce water taxi services as a new transportation system in the former capital city, road transport official Maung Aung told Xinhua Wednesday.

The express water taxis will run along the Yangon River with fair taxi fee starting the third week of May.

The authority has planned to implement the system since November last year to reduce the traffic jam problem as in other countries, said the official.

Its route is designed for commuters from the outskirts of the city to reach downtown in avoiding traffic congestion problem.

Meanwhile, the Yangon regional government has abolished all 300 old bus lines operating in the commercial city of Yangon and replaced it with up to 79 new bus lines starting on Jan. 16 as part of its effort to solve the traffic jam issue and make the bus lines systematically operational. Enditem
