The European Commission on Thursday published an urban water atlas for Europe during a meeting of ministers in charge of water management from the 43 members of the Union for the Mediterranean in Valetta.

This tool is the first of its kind and provides information about water management in European cities. It shows how different water management choices, waste management and climate change would affect the long-term sustainability of water use in cities.

The atlas aims to encourage European citizens to take an interest and get involved in water issues, according to the Commission.

There are two online tools presented with the atlas to help European cities with water management. The first one is City Blueprint, which is an interactive tool to support strategic decision-making. It presents up to 25 different aspects of water management of a city and provides tailor-made options for making urban water services more sustainable.

The other is City Amberprint, which is a tool for assessing a city's progress towards becoming smart and sustainable.

The publication is funded by European Union Horizon 2020 strategy. Enditem
