Tokyo stocks edge lower in morning on profit taking ahead of holidays

Tokyo stocks inched lower Friday morning as investors opted to secure gains ahead of a series of national holidays next week.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 38.78 points, or 0.20 percent, from Thursday to 19,213.09.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged 3.45 points, or 0.22 percent lower, to 1,533.22.

Securities, bank and transportation equipment-related issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break. Endit
