Argentine Ambassador to China Diego Guelar hailed bilateral ties as being at a "historic moment," according to an article published on Thursday.

In an interview with financial daily El Cronista Comercial, Guelar also said President Mauricio Macri's upcoming visit to China in May could lay the foundation for the future of bilation ties in coming decades.

"Expectations are very high among both the government and local public opinions" concerning Macri's China trip, said Guelar.

Asked how he would describe the bilateral ties, which celebrated their 45th anniversary on Feb. 19, Guelar said they are "at a historic moment, because we are building a mature, long-term relationship based on national interests, and disconnected from any ideological banner."

"In China, we find an essential player on the world stage (that is) complementary with our country and interested in continuing to consolidate bilateral ties, in other words, a partner that we have chosen, that we value and that we look after," he said.

The envoy underscored "advances in investment projects in housing, roadway infrastructure, energy and mining" by Chinese companies in Argentina.

Guelar also expressed admiration for China's recent development, saying: "They have transformed their country with an astonishing speed."

China is Argentina's second largest trade partner, leading export market for agricultural goods, and third biggest foreign investor. Endi
