Huge crowds took to the streets in Washington, D.C. and at over 350 sister marches across the United States on Saturday in mass protests against President Donald Trump's climate policies.

The People's Climate March, timed to coincide with the 100th day of Trump's first 100 days in office, followed a series of presidential executive orders that aimed to loosen restrictions on the fossil fuel industry.

Organizers said over 150,000 people have joined the event in the U.S. capital, a number far exceeding their expectations, as the National Park Service granted a permit only for 100,000 people.

"We're blown away by the numbers," said Paul Getsos, the People's Climate Movement National Coordinator.

"We like to say 'to change everything, we need everyone' and everyone is showing up. This movement for climate, jobs and justice will only grow stronger."

The nationwide marches came as the Trump administration is debating whether the United States should continue to stay in the 2015 Paris Agreement on tackling global warming. Endit
