HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX-Index, closed at 98.73 points on Monday, up 0.45 points or 0.46 percent against the previous trading session.

Over 52.289 million shares worth some 520.424 billion Vietnamese dong (some 23.2 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, an increase of 11.1 percent in volume, but a decrease of 17.8 percent in value against the previous trading session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed up 201.84 points, or 0.79 percent, to 25,871.89 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 25,720.38 and 25,875.48. Turnover totaled 68.19 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 8.74 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks finished marginally higher Monday as U.S. tech shares advancing at the end of last week set a positive tone, while the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar underpinned the market.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 20.68 points, or 0.10 percent, from Friday to close the day at 20,153.35.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, crept 0.87 point, or 0.05 percent, higher to finish the day at 1,612.21.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 772.52 points on Monday, up 3.51 points, or 0.46 percent, against last Friday's closing session.

About 235.113 million shares worth 4.236 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (188.85 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 145 stocks went up, 129 stocks fell down, while 50 stocks remained unchanged.

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market slipped back down after a strong early start to finish flat on Monday, after early gains were wiped out by mixed results across sectors.

At the market close, the main S&P/ASX200 index edged up 4.30 points, or 0.08 percent, to finish at 5,720.20 points, while the wider-ranged All Ordinaries was also up by 3.80 points, or 0.07 percent, to end the day at 5,758.40 points.

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market closed on Monday down 0.80 percent compared to the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 8.18 points to reach 1,012.67 points after closing.

A total of 37,500 shares worth about 191 million Lao kip (nearly 23,198 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) gained 10.06 points, or 0.42 percent, to settle at 2,388.66. Trading volume stood at 315.04 million shares worth 5.11 trillion won (4.5 billion U.S. dollars).

South Korea's currency finished at 1,137.1 won against the greenback, up 1.7 won from the previous close.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Monday moved up 3.25 points, or 0.21 percent, to close at 1,585.61 points.
